Contribution Series Number 48: The New Lentin and Williams Index 2017

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new edition of the “Lentin and Williams Index”. This dinoflagellate classic has not been updated since 2004, and is the eighth complete revision of the 1973 original. That first edition was 176 small pages long … The 2017 Index is 1097 full pages long, reflecting the burgeoning of dinoflagellate research in the past 44 years. Not surprisingly the new edition is intended as a digital publication and no printed copies will be made by the AASP Foundation, heralding a new era for the AASP Contributions Series. The best news is that the digital 2017 Index, AASP Contributions Series number 48 is available to everyone free of charge. Just click here AASP Contribution Series No.48 and download it.

A companion new version of the DINOFLAJ (pronounced “dinofladge”) database, DINOFLAJ3, is also now available here: http://dinoflaj.smu.ca/dinoflaj3. Indeed, until last summer, an update of DINOFLAJ was the only new entity planned. But given the problem that new combinations, etc., could not be effectively published in the database format, but could be in an established serial PDF publication with an ISSN number, the authors decided to publish a new edition of the Index and a new version of DINOFLAJ in tandem.

The authors hope to publish updates of the Index/DINOFLAJ every 2-3 years given that the processes are in place to generate the Index from DINOFLAJ. So please continue to send new taxonomic papers to the corresponding author (rob.fensome@canada.ca). The same goes for any errors that you may see in either work.
